Happy Birthday Stacy!

We celebrated Stacy's birthday last weekend with the family with a wonderful BBQ out in the backyard at the Alexander's. It was such a beautiful, warm day that is was a perfect match to enjoy lunch outdoors. And then came Stacy's cake! And then we all took generous pieces... because it's Brian and Mel - we don't usually skimp on desserts. (We have a repuation to uphold here!) Oooooh! Look at all the cool "green," natural, and organic treats Stacy got!

And then the general goofiness that is the best part about being in the Alexander family.... :)

Hope this birthday was a great one Stacy!

Kim Comes to Visit!

Mel's friend Kim came to visit last weekend - Lucky girl gets school vacations off! (Well, I guess that is a perk you might as well take advantage of if you've got it!) So we nabbed her for a day while she was traveling New England visiting friends. And we took her to the Gelato Fiasco - like we do with all the people we love that come to visit us!
Weird flavors available this visit: Coca Cola and Sweet Vidalia Onion... we passed on both, thank you very much.

yard work is hard work :)

This weekend has been dedicated to yard work, so the photos aren't extremely exciting. Brian was working thoroughly raking the lawn so we're ready to start seeding tomorrow morning (our lawn is about 30% grass.... the rest is dead or dirt, so we're hoping to fix that). I started digging up my little vegetable garden patch (to be) - getting rid of all the grass chunks and as many weed roots as possible.
And here's a little sampling of our beautiful surroundings - our mystery tree has finally started to bloom pretty white and pink flowers. There are hundreds of buds on the tree. We can't wait to see the whole thing is bloom. I'll try to post again in a week if it looks good.
And here are the first flowers blooming from the bulbs we planted last fall. I love going out every morning to see if anything new has happened in the flowerbed since the day before!

Local Fame

Just thought I'd post this - my market bag made local fame on the local yarn store's website... Horray! I think it's just a great idea to show the work of local knitters... it's interesting to see what people are working on around here.

Wise Words... that Stick!

This was a birthday card from my Aunt Deb from a few months ago. It makes me smile every time I see it... so I thought I'd share.Let's hear it for No-Stick!!
heeeee hee!

Spring has Sprung!

So yesterday was starting to get nice and today was absolutely beautiful, hitting mid 60 and sunny as could be! We loved it! (Just don't ask about the weekend forcast ... back to low 40's and rain - yuck.) But we enjoyed this short little spell of beautiful weather as a promise that spring will arrive just as soon as it can....

As you can see from our tiny little snowbank, winter is truly coming to a end.
Isn't it a wonderfully magical thing how plants know just the right time to make their debut each spring? These are buds on the tree just in front of our living room window. We can't wait to see what it'll look like when it blooms. And here are the first signs of the beautiful tulip and daffodil bulbs Mom and I planted last fall. I'm so glad at least some of them made it! We'll have to see how many others will wake up this week to join them.
And what else marks nice weather but cooking on the grill?! And these were sooo good with that smokey grill flavor too.... Mmmmm, Great work B!

Soooo close to finished!

Ok, so my beautiful French Market Bag is finished... unfortunately I haven't had time to take pictures other than these when I had my bag drying over a large stock pot., but you'll get the idea. You can see how the (now) felted bag doesn't have the "knitted" pattern in the wool.. isn't that cool? I'm hooked! What else can felt?? (This is fair warning... hide your sweaters!)
Here I come farmer's market! Your vegis are leaving with me (in this pretty little bag of course)!!
