Then we headed north to Shin Pond Village (campground), the location of Kim and Jake's wedding and just outside Baxter State Park. We set up camp and got to cook dinner over the fire and then (the best part!) toasted marshmallows for our first smores of the summer!

So glad we got a camping trip in!! Side story: so I had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night which was only a few minutes walk from our tent. Brian decided to walk with me. So we start walking with flashlights in hand, watching the stars in the sky (which of course are just stunning when there are no city lights to get in the way) rather than where we're walking when suddenly we hear a loud nasally exhale, kind of like a horse "snort" (I'm not describing this well at all!). We stop walking. We hear it again. But the flashlights just don't illuminate more than a few feet in any direction. All we know is that there's a large animal that's about 30 feet from us that's letting us know he sees us. So we quickly turn around, walk back to the tent, hop in the car, and drive down to the bathrooms. The animals must have moved on by the time we shone the headlights all around, but we're guessing it was either a deer or a moose. Whatever it was, we got a lot closer than we would ever consider getting had we been able to see him! We're just glad it wasn't a hungry bear :)
